Kinchley's Tavern, Ramsey, NJ - Bar Pies, YES - Burgers, NO!

Kinchley's Tavern
586 North Franklin Turnpike Ramsey, NJ 07446
Tel: (201) 934-7777
http://www.kinchleyspizza.com/

What:
One large cheese pizza and one cheeseburger

Build:
Plain cheese thin-crust bar pie

Cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, and onion on a Kaiser roll

Comments:

This is going to be short and to the point...The pizza was spot-on as usual, although my one and only ongoing complaint is that although the crust is perfectly crispy, the rest of the pie dough is limp. When you pick up a piece it droops like a big old elephant trunk.

Two thin-crust competitors, Nellie's Pizza in Waldwick and The Star Tavern in Orange, can hold their own when it comes to the crispiness of the slices.
With that said, Kinchley's always nails that orange bar pie color which tells me their cheese-to-sauce ratio is perfect.
For me, Kinchley's is like White Castle – I can only go so long before I need a fix.

As for the burger....

In a word, the burger "sucked.” I should have stuck to my own teachings, e.g. you should never order seafood when patronizing a steakhouse and vice versa. I ordered a burger at a tavern where the specialty is bar pies... what was I thinking? I asked for a temperature of medium rare and it came out mushy as if it was defrosted. Ugh.

The burger gets a 5 out of 10 on the BC rating scale. Condiment freshness, bun, burger-to-bun ratio etc. are the only things that made it a 5\10.

Double Cheeseburger

Build:

French fries smothered in green chili and cheese
Double cheeseburger, lettuce, onion, mayo, and pickle on a traditional bun

Comments:
Love what they are doing at ECB. Been there 3 or 4 times now and the consistency is impeccable. I have grown to expect the same high quality burgers every time I visit. Rock-solid consistency and delicious burgers = a great combination.

The burgers are 4-oz. Creekstone Farms patties, and they are a mind-blowing combination of chuck, hanger and short rib. I recommend a double cheeseburger with your choice of toppings and a vanilla shake.
You'll be back...

Once again, ECB scores an easy 10\10 on the BC rating scale.

Pastrami Reuben made Proper...

Where:
The Beach Haven Fishery
2115 Long Beach Blvd., Spray Beach, 08008
(609)-492-4388

What:
Pan-fried Reuben (secret menu item)

Comments:
What more can be said when you watch tissue-paper-thin pastrami being pan-fried and placed over toasted marble rye with homemade Russian dressing, sauerkraut, imported Swiss and American cheeses –  and all of that topped with a handful of deep-fried beer battered dill pickles? I'm speechless. While the Reubens were made with two variations, one with sauerkraut and the other with coleslaw, both were outstanding.
