What:
Mega Monster burger

Two black Angus burger patties, American and white cheddar cheeses, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, and IHOB's signature sauce.

Comments:
I never would have believed it – a casual food chain pushing out an old-school type of burger? I have no idea how the meat is processed, but I have to tell you, the end result is a mouth-watering, nostalgic rendered-fat taste that hits on all cylinders.

My photos show the temperature of my double Mega Monster burger to be (arguably) well done. It was well done the same way a Five Guys burger is well done. Not pink inside, yet tender and juicy throughout, so I guess you could say it is a well-done burger “well done” – which is why I can't lower point values when judging for temperature.

Side note: I was a bit annoyed when for some strange reason, my wife and I realized our burgers were lacking both pickle and onion. To add to that, my wife's "classic" single burger patty was noticeably smaller than one of my single patties, so we surmised that she had been served a kids portion burger. She refused to send it back as we were both too "hangry" to wait any longer to eat.

Back to the burger...
The signature sauce tasted like a 50/50 blend of French and ranch dressings, but it worked well. Our buns were definitely frozen and thawed not long before being served, and the toppings were average for freshness. For me, the standout feature was the meat. Yes, a chain burger, I know, but I'm not a hater like you, and I've certainly never been a food snob. So yes, I like the meat because it really does have that old-school taste that was quite refreshing in a retro kind of way.
I'll be back to try another with hopes of a fresh bun and all the toppings the menu advertises.

This burger receives an 8.4/10 on the BC rating scale.
