Steve's burgers is the type of roadside burger joint you always wanted to stumble onto. It's located on Rt46 west in Garfield NJ, which is about 15 miles from my home but I gotta tell you, this place is well worth a much longer trip if you have the time.

After hearing about Steve's from a colleague at work and then again from a review on Tommyeats.com the place went straight to the top of my bucket list and as you can see in the photos, it's tiny, colorful and quaint, which make it very interesting as well as very appealing to any burger hound.
Once inside, the hand-written menu signs, the smell of the well seasoned flat grill behind the brown curtain, the "cash only" sign at the counter, the mini magazine racks at each of the 4 tables and the sign that read: "Homemade Never Frozen Burgers" all gave me a feeling of belonging. It felt like I had just spent long days walking across miles of frozen tundra and walked straight into Auntie Em's house with the smell of smoked meats and apple cobbler wafting though the air. I was home.

The burger aroma was to die for and I promptly ordered my standard burger with cheese, raw onion and pickle - medium rare.  It came out perfect, dripping with juices as soon as I picked it up and gave it a little squeeze. It was hot off the grill and almost too hot to handle. The quality of the meat hits you first, and I'm not one to judge a burger by it's surroundings but I really never expected the burger to be this good. I'm talkin', "holy sh*t" these are stupid good. And cheese above and below the meat is a home run for me - it tells me this guy isn't just cooking burgers to sell, he actually enjoys eating them himself. The more I ate, the more I was thinking, if Steve keeps this up, he'll be on a "best of" burger show very soon. Move over White Manna and the like, Steve is cooking the tastiest burgers in northern NJ. I'll let the photos speak for themselves. 10/10 Nice job Steve. I'll be back - and soon.

Yeah, he's creepy....
