Where: Yard House, West Nyack, NY
What: The Classic Cheeseburger and The BBQ Bacon Cheddar Burger
The Classic CB Build: 7 ounce 100% Angus beef patty, lettuce, tomato, red onion, garlic aïoli and fries.
The BBQ Bacon CB Build: Applewood smoked bacon, rum BBQ sauce and garlic aïoli with (Truffle) fries.
Comment: I visited the Yard House for a birthday lunch with my boss on her recommendation. The Yard House is an upscale chain restaurant with an enormous amount of square footage. Between the gigantic menu with dozens of items and a smattering of fusion items and mixed cuisines, the place seemed to me to be a cross between PF Chang's and The Cheesecake Factory. Very pleasant staff, comfortable seating and the coolest ceiling fan I've ever seen.
On to the burger....
The Classic CB was 7oz of loosely packed Angus beef off a char-broil grill. It was cooked a perfect medium/rare per my request with all fresh toppings. The toppings come on the side along with the garlic aïoli so you can regulate the quantity of each which is great (no tomato for me). A thick slice of real Cheddar cheese (American is not an option) added great flavor to this burger and I was a very happy camper.
As for the BBQ Bacon CB my boss ordered, after one bite all I heard was "Oh my God" repeated quite a few times. Then she gave me a piece to try and I unconsciously came back with another "OMG" of my own. This burger has thick cut applewood smoked bacon on top of Cheddar cheese with the same garlic aïoli I had on my burger and the added touch of the Yard House's homemade rum BBQ sauce. Now, I'm normally not a fan of BBQ sauce (at all) because it overpowers everything it touches. Years ago I tried pulled pork out of the pan before sauce was put on it and I've never looked back so naturally I was very skeptical about this sauce. Well, I ended up asking our server if I could get a bottle to go. It's amazing. I can't begin to accurately describe what ingredients might be in there so I won't, but trust me, you need to try this stuff. The sauce has a wonderful aroma, perfect viscosity, not too thick, not too thin and the sweet/spicy line was perfectly drawn. There are some fantastic flavors going on at the Yard House. 10/10 on both counts.
PS - Best truffle fries I've had to date.
