Where: Beach Haven Fishery, Long Beach Island, NJ
What: Thai Shrimp-Kaboom
Build: 6 large shrimp, sriracha sauce, garlic, olive oil, curry powder, chicken broth, julienne leaks and cucumbers, toasted potato roll, parsley.
Comment: This was an impromptu tasting at the BHF, last Sunday. I had stopped by to say goodbye to my favorite friendly restaurant staff when Chef Pat stuck this baby under my nose - The Thai Shrimp-Kaboom. It was an idea he had for a new lunch special and I was to be the guinea pig. This was a 10/10 from the start. Chef Pat took 6 large gulf shrimp and tossed them in a pan naked (no breading) and fried them with garlic, oil and butter until they were lightly browned. Then he added sriracha sauce (Thai hot sauce) along with just a pinch of curry powder. These ingredients went straight from the pan to the toasted potato roll where they were bathed with the remaining sauce and topped with julienne cut raw leaks, raw cucumbers and a squirt of sriracha mayo. A touch of parsley on top and there you have it. I was in heaven. These flavors were not only new to me they were simple and all blended perfectly. The heat from the sauce was cooled by the leaks and cuke's, it was really a fantastic new flavor for a sandwich. 10/10 I was only able to get one photo before my camera ran out of battery... I'll see if I can get a few more this weekend... I'll have to order another one... damn....
