Comments:
Hiram's has been making killer hot dogs since the late 1920's. This small old-school beer and dog joint is not only a step back in time, it's freakin' delicious. And the tap beer is ice cold with very clean tasting beer lines. Doesn't get any better than that. If you're like me, a kid who grew up in the 60's, you're no stranger to Yoo-Hoo, a chocolate drink that pairs perfectly with hot dogs and burgers. I always opt for the Yoo-Hoo over the beer.
Hiram's is primarily known for their hot dogs, and rightfully so. They are deep fried to perfection and the homemade chile topping is not overly seasoned. I'm sure the dogs are Thuman's, they have a subtle flavor with a great snap when biting into one. The helping of chili on the hot dog is perfect - not so much that it makes a sloppy mess and destroys the bun, but enough to satisfy. As anal as it may sound, even the squirt of mustard is a perfect quantity. I attribute these subtle perfections in flavor balance to years of tried-and-true hot dog making. Don't miss a chance at a Hiram's hot dog.

With that said, I'm here to tell you that Hiram's burgers have been wrongfully standing in the shadow of their hot dogs for years. They are for me, the quintessential burger at the beginning of the 1950's McDonalds era. They are thin and crispy with loads of flavor. Their simplicity is key, a cheeseburger with raw onion and maybe a small dollop of ketchup if you're into that. Although I forgot to order this burger without ketchup, I usually prefer mine au naturale (NFK).
If I had to guess, (Lord knows I can be wrong) I'd say the burgers are a not-very-often-seen frozen burger variety such as the Sabrett burger brand (yes, Sabrett offers burgers). They too, have that old-school flavor. Anyway, my point is, don't leave Hiram's with0ut tasting both hog dog AND burger. You will not be disappointed.

Did I mention a cheeseburger is $3.25?
